Introduction: The Contradiction of American Refuge
As we approach World Humanitarian Day and its mandate to “Act for Humanity,” we must turn a critical eye toward the humanitarian crisis occurring right inside the United States. Thousands of New Americans arrive at our borders every year, legally exercising their international right to seek asylum from persecution. Instead of a fair legal process, they are met with a punitive matrix of profit-driven corporate detention centers and localized ICE jails.
As a registered 501(c)(3) advocacy organization, ELOI Inc. views this not as a border management issue, but as a severe violation of fundamental human rights.
The Anatomy of Institutional Neglect
Inside these gray walls, asylum seekers are subjected to conditions designed to break their resolve and force the abandonment of legitimate legal claims:
- Systemic Legal Isolation: Detainees are routinely transferred across state lines in the middle of the night. This deliberately severs them from family support networks and makes retaining reliable legal counsel nearly impossible.
- Medical Neglect & Institutional Racism: Within these localized detention networks, minority immigrants face severe, documented medical neglect. The denial of standard, routine healthcare for chronic conditions and pregnant women constitutes a profound moral failure.

We partner with civil rights coalitions to audit facility conditions, expose medical neglect, and demand the total elimination of profit-driven detention centers. We will not stop campaigning until the U.S. immigration system treats every single individual with the fundamental fairness and dignity they deserve under the law.
