A Journey of Recovery: Finding New Purpose Thousands of Miles from Home

Mental health is one of the most serious and important issues we face, and ELOI takes it very seriously. In the USA, we have a special focus on youth struggling with addiction, a battle that can leave young people feeling lost, hopeless, and without purpose.

We believe that recovery is not just about abstaining; it’s about rediscovering oneself. That’s why we developed a unique and transformative program: Post Recovery Support.

Healing Through Service in Uganda

This program is unlike any other. We take young people who are in recovery from drug addiction on a self-sponsored, post-recovery trip to Uganda, East Africa.

For a period of 3 months to 1 year (or more), these individuals are placed in hands-on projects run by our sister organization, eloiministries.org.

Why does this work?

  • A New Environment: It removes them entirely from the people, places, and triggers that may have enabled their addiction.
  • A New Perspective: By engaging in volunteer service, they shift their focus from their own struggles to the needs of others.
  • A Renewed Purpose: Working on community projects, connecting with a new culture, and making a tangible difference allows them to rediscover their own value, strength, and purpose.

This program is a powerful bridge between our work in the US and our roots in Uganda. It’s an opportunity for cultural exchange and, more importantly, a journey for young Americans to find a new, healthier, and more purposeful path for their lives.
