Open Homes, Open Hearts: Joining the Immigrant Host Family Network

The journey for a New American often involves spending months or even years in detention, followed by a sudden release with few resources and nowhere to go. This transition period is critically vulnerable, often leading to homelessness and increased mental health stress.

Our Host an Immigrant initiative offers a simple, powerful way for compassionate Americans to challenge injustice and build community.

Bridging the Gap from Detention to Dignity

We connect individuals or families willing to offer a temporary, safe space to those who have recently been:

  • Released from ICE detention, often on bond or parole.
  • Faced with the expiration of their allotted time at overcrowded immigrant shelters.

This is a life-affirming form of community support that goes beyond financial donation.

What Hosting Provides

Hosting an immigrant is not just charity; it is an act of solidarity that provides essential stability:

  • Safety and Shelter: A reliable address and a secure place to sleep is the foundation for recovery and future planning.
  • Mental Health Relief: Leaving the isolating environment of detention for a supportive home environment is crucial for recovering from trauma.
  • Navigational Help: Host families often provide invaluable assistance with basic logistics—learning public transport, navigating grocery stores, and scheduling mandatory check-ins with immigration authorities.

You can be the bridge that leads a New American from the instability of the detention system to the promise of a thriving life in the United States.
